Coding in the Swiss healthcare sector
The coding of diagnoses and treatments, or procedures in the Swiss healthcare system, is required both for the compilation of various statistics and for the application of various tariff systems.
For the three inpatient tariff systems SwissDRG (acute somatic), TARPSY (psychiatry) and ST Reha (rehabilitation), the ICD and CHOP catalogues are used for coding main and secondary diagnoses, or procedures/treatments. From 2025, these two catalogues will probably also be used in the area of outpatient flat rates.
